What temperature is too cold for a peace lily?

Peace lilies prefer warm daytime temperatures between 68 and 85 °F and nighttime temperatures about 10 °F cooler. Try to avoid temperatures below 60 °F as cold damage may occur.

Can I put my peace lily outside?

Though most peace lilies are grown as houseplants, you can also grow them outside if you live in zones 10 to 12. Plant them in a shady spot (where they'll naturally get much more ambient light than if they were growing inside) in soil that's consistently slightly moist.

How cold can Lily tolerate?

Lilies can withstand heat into the 90-degree Fahrenheit temperatures and stand up to cold below freezing level. Tropical regions can be a problem since lilies need a cold season that drops below 65 degrees Fahrenheit for at least eight weeks.

Can a peace lily come back to life after a freeze?

If you can see green buds on the crown -- the fleshy base of the plant at the soil line -- the plant might resume growing as if it had simply gone through dormancy. The only way to find out whether your plant has survived is to move it inside to a warm area, trim back the necrotic leaves and water as usual.

How often should I water peace lily in winter?

Your Peace Lily enjoys weekly waterings, but it will tell you when it needs water by drooping its leaves. During the winter months feel free to only water your plant fortnightly.

Can I put my potted peace lily outside in the summer?

Potted Peace Lilies can be grown outside in the warm months of summer. But you will have to bring them indoors once the temperature drops. What is this? These plants cannot withstand temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit (12.7 degrees Celsius) so make sure the temperature is not below this on winter nights.

How long do peace lilies live?

Peace lilies (Spathiphyllum sp.) are prized for their pleasing appearance, ease of growth and for their ability to clean the air. Peace lilies live on average from three to five years.

Can peace lilies survive winter?

The peace lily makes a great houseplant because it thrives in the typical indoor temperature range of 65 to 80 degrees. Keep the peace lily away from noninsulated windows and doors this winter because cold drafts will harm it. Temperatures above 90 degrees can cause leaf curling, yellowing and browning.

Should I cover my lilies from frost?

While daylilies can usually recover quickly from a hard freeze, a late spring cold snap may set tender daylily growth back for a few days. This perennial lily does not normally need protection from cold weather, but there is no harm in covering daylilies on cold spring nights to ensure that they won't suffer damage.

What causes brown tips on peace lily leaves?

Lack of Humidity

Peace lilies come from tropical areas that are warm and humid. If they don't receive the humidity that they've evolved to thrive in, the tips of the leaves may turn dry and brown.

Why do peace lily leaves curl?

The reasons for your peace lily leaves curling are underwatering, overwatering, low humidity, extreme temperatures, too much light, and overfeeding. However, nutritional deficiencies, pests, and transplant shock are also possible causes.

What does a peace lily look like when it needs water?

The plant will droop a bit when thirsty, telling you when it needs a drink. If you pay attention to when it usually starts to sag, you can plan to water one day before it generally happens. Watering about once a week and spritzing leaves with water throughout the summer will help keep your peace lily hydrated.

Do peace lilies come back every year?

As tropical perennials peace lilies will come back every year if you take good care of them. In fact, they can even flower again and again. This makes them ideal plants to grow in any home and office, especially when combined with the fact they don't require too much maintenance.

How do I make my peace lily bushy?

If your peace lily is growing leggy (like mine), try putting it in a place that gets a little more light. Leggy plants grow longer stems and form a stretched-out look as they try to reach more light.

How do I make my peace lily grow bigger?

To make your Peace Lily grow bigger, provide bright indirect light, monitor watering needs closely, and lightly fertilize your plant every 2-3 months. Address any issues promptly to prevent your plant from experiencing excess stress.

Will cardboard boxes protect plants from frost?

From that experience, I've found the best frost protection for your outdoor plants is either free or cheap. Cardboard boxes and brown grocery sacks make perfect frost cover and at the end of the season can be recycled. I keep various boxes on the patio and when frost is forecast simply put one over the plant.

Will frost hurt lilies?

Heavier frost will cause damage to the most tender leaves at the tops of stems, but in many cases they will quickly grow new unmarred leaves. The lily shown above was sprayed with a copper-based fungicide as a safety measure against Botrytis becoming a problem should the "up and down" weather continue.

Will a tarp protect plants from frost?

Cover Plants – Protect plants from all but the hardest freeze (28°F for five hours) by covering them with sheets, towels, blankets, cardboard or a tarp. You can also invert baskets, coolers or any container with a solid bottom over plants. Cover plants before dark to trap warmer air.

Should I put my peace lily in the window?

Peace lilies prefer indirect sunlight. In nature, they receive dappled sunlight on the forest floor so exposure to direct sunlight can actually harm your peace lily. It's best to place them near an East-facing window. Here they will receive warmth from the morning light while escaping the harsh afternoon sun.
